Join fellow students, staff, and community members to critically explore the implications of the shift of discourses from anti-racism and liberatory politics to discourses of multiculturalism and diversity. What current and historical experiences do “color-blind” and “post-racial” discourses obscure or reveal? How is race talked about today in the university context and beyond, and what kind of impact do these discourses have on the work we do? Financial Wellness Workshop

Tues. April 14, 5pm (Free dinner), Multicultural Center (Bryan Center Lower Level) Financial Wellness @ the MCC Seniors – Graduation is approaching quicker than you can imagine. As you prepare for the next phase of your life, don’t forget your financial health. While there may be many things we cannot control; your spending habit is not one of those things. The Multicultural Center will host an interactive session on ways to set goals for financial success. This financial session will offer suggestions re: various financial tools you can use to manage your finances more successfully. Now is the perfect time to educate yourself re: financial skills. If you have been thinking about questions such as repayment of student loans, credit card debt, budgeting and managing expenses, etc. this is the workshop for you. Don’t miss it . SOFC Annual Budget Process

Hey everyone,

2009-2010 annual budget applications are now online at the SOFC website.  Only SOFC CHARTERED organizations are eligible for the annual budget allocation process.  If you are unsure if your group is a SOFC Chartered organization you can check DukeGroups.com (directions below)

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 31st at 11:59pm

Allocation hearings will be

Applications for charter upgrade (i.e. registered status to charter status) will not be heard until after the annual budget process is complete.

To confirm your status in DukeGroups:
1. go to: http://dukegroups.com
2. Click “Organizations”
3. Click “Browse Organization Tree”
4. Click the “plus” signs next to the following catagories:
DukeGroups > Recognized Student Organizations > Student Organization Finance Committee > SOFC Chartered Organizations

If your group is listed under this heading it is eligible for the annual budget allocations.

Soliciting Proposals for Spring 2008 Semester Programs

Deadline: Monday, November 17, 2007, 5pm

All undergraduate student organizations with an OSAF fund code are eligible to apply.

TO QUALIFY FOR FUNDING, A MEMBER INVOLVED IN WRITING THE PROPOSAL MUST ATTEND ONE MANDATORY INFORMATION MEETING.

WHEN (choose one of the following):

Tuesday, October 21, 2-3pm

Monday, October 27, 3-4pm

Wednesday, October 29, 4-5pm

Thursday, October 30, 2-3pm

Friday, October 31, 1-2pm

-Attendance is required to receive funding!

1. Michael Steele and Harold Ford Jr. Debate

BSA, in conjunction with DUU and Hart Leadership, will be hosting a

debate between Michael Steele (chair of GOP Action Committee) and

Harold Ford Jr. (Chair of the Democratic Leadership Conference) on

Wednesday, October 22nd from 7:30-9:00 pm in Page Auditorium. Both

speakers will be addressing issues of importance to college students

today. Make sure to pick up free tickets at the Box Office

2. BSA Pre-Performance Mixer

BSA will be hosting a pre-performance mixer for Karamu Drama Group’s

performance of “Day of Absence” on Friday, October 24th from 5:00-6:00

pm in Schaefer Lobby in the Bryan Center. This will be a great

opportunity to meet and mingle with leaders of black student groups on

campus. Cocktail attire is preferred for this event.

3. DUU GLO Party

9th, complete with LASER LIGHT SHOW and free glow-themed items!

Student tickets go on sale at 10 AM on Thursday, October 16th - get

them before sales open up to the general public. Tickets will be

available in person at the Duke Box Office and online at

tickets.duke.edu.

The show will feature a unique lineup of electronic rock and DJs. The

headliner, Ghostland Observatory, is an electronic rock band known

coast to coast for their high-energy live performances, driving beats,

contagious dancing, and laser light show. The opener, Flosstradamus,

is a DJ duo that has performed at music festivals like Lollapalooza

and South By Southwest.

Apply for 2008 Student Affairs Free Summer Housing!

This program is designed for the benefit of undergraduate student clubs and organizations. Students involved in projects associated with internships, research studies, residential living groups, resident advisor and/or FAC programs, and department-sponsored groups are not eligible. Student groups that have not renewed their recognition with DSG will also be deemed ineligible. Students who have graduated are ineligible.

Available space is limited; rooms will be assigned on a first come, first served basis according to date and time of application submission.

Rooms are not to be used as summer storage space. Doing so may result in an organization’s ineligibility to participate in this program in the future.

Rooms will be located on East or West campus and will not have air-conditioning.
