McClendon Tower, 5th Floor - West Campus

A career in advertising sounds interesting but is it as fun as it seems? John Adams, Chairman and CEO of The Martin Agency has enjoyed his career in advertising for over 30 years – a rarity in an industry where executives come and go as quickly as trends on Wall Street. Find out how a career in this industry can remain fresh over the years and gain exposure on the advertising world from an expert in the field!

Under John Adams’ leadership, The Martin Agency became the first advertising agency to be named “Agency of the Year” five times by Adweek magazine, the industry standard. In 2007, Advertising Age ranked Martin as one of the Top 10 Agencies in America, placing it at #5. In 2008, the same publication ranked Martin as #3.

John plays a key role on the team that continues to bring national attention to The Martin Agency, representing such brands as Microsoft, Walmart, Hanes, Discover Financial, BFGoodrich and GEICO. In 1997, John became one of a handful of advertising people to be inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame. Additionally, he and his partner, Mike Hughes, were named in 2000 as the Outstanding Industrialists of the Year. He now serves as a trustee at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and as a member of the Board of Visitors at Longwood University. John lectures on marketing and business issues throughout the United States.

Imagine: Delicious, homemade chocolate-chip cookies delivered to your
door during Finals week

Duke Habitat can help make it happen! This December, we’re partnering with Little Hands Bakery to deliver cookie care packages to students – and all proceeds go to help Habitat for Humanity build homes in the local community. The cookies are homemade by local youth and their parents, and will be hand-delivered during Finals week to campus dorms/ apartments and off-campus housing. Forward the order form (http://www.duke.edu/web/dukehabitat/cookieorderform.pdf) to your parents so they can send a “little hand” – both to you and to the city of Durham! They can order two dozen, one dozen, or a single cookie, include a personal message, and specify which day during Finals Week they would like the package delivered. Payment should be in the form of a check made out to “Habitat of Durham” with “Duke Care Package” in the memo line. Checks and order forms should be mailed by November 26th to:
